Even better, domain registration is FREE when you host your site with VARiHOST. It’s now so fast and easy to register a new domain and setup a WordPress site.
Our new site is now fully live! We’ve been so excited with the development of the site, which includes a completely new Customer Accounts System, Domain Registration and Support ticket system.
Customer Accounts
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be moving customers into the new system. You’ll receive an email detailing this. This will allow each customer to fully manage their services (domains, packages etc) plus account and payment details.
Domain Registration
A new ‘real time’ domain registration system now allows customers to easily search available domains and secure them instantly. It also handles domain transfers-in – so custoemrs wishing to consolidate the management of their domains can do so.
Support
The new ticket system is simple to use and allows the submission of tickets and access to ongoing tickets. You can also manage tickets by simply replying to your support email or logging in to the ticket online. Either method will update the ticket thread. We don’t get many support tickets ! But we wanted to make it really easy for customers, should they need to contact us. Oh, and no robots replying to your issues either! Still the same personal, friendly help – just in a streamlined, organised way!
We’re very keen to hear feedback from everyone, so please let us know what you think.
From 1st May 2010 we will begin the process of discontinuing support for Microsoft FrontPage Extensions. In June 2006 the Microsoft FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions for UNIX were deemed to be “End-of-Life” which means modern versions of Apache cannot run the extensions. By removing FrontPage extensions we can benefit from the enhancements, security and features that are in modern versions of Apache.
Time line:
FrontPage extensions have already been removed from our product feature list for new customers.
On the 1st May FrontPage extensions will be removed from the control panel for existing customers.
In the months following the 1st May the extensions will be removed from each web server as we move to the latest version of Apache.
We’re writing to you to let you know in advance of a new development that we will be rolling out to the control panel from the 15th February 2010.
Over the last year there has been a substantial increase in the number of sites on the internet that have been hacked due to viruses that steal FTP credentials from user’s home computers. The hackers then use these credentials to insert hidden code within your website.
To reduce the significant threat from these viruses VARiHOST has come up with a solution that adds some protection to websites. The solution is to lock FTP when it’s not in use, making it extremely difficult for the hackers to infect your site via this route.
To unlock FTP, simply log into your control panel and click one button to unlock FTP for a period of time. FTP will then automatically lock again after the time period has expired.
You will also be able to nominate an IP address that has permanent FTP access, customers FTPing from that IP address will not have to unlock FTP. You will not have to unlock FTP if you use the File Manager within the control panel.
These security measures will ensure that the majority of sites have FTP locked, greatly reducing the risk of having your websites infected.
Please remember that this change will go live on 15th February 2010.
We’ve just released the most recent version of our webmail solution, AtMail 6. This new version has many enhanced interface features, making it easier to manage your email while on the move and away from the office.
We will be continually working on additional features to maintain an enterprise level messaging solution to our customers.
